Description

In Greater Manchester we are developing a transport system for the future, connecting people and places to unlock employment, education, leisure and cultural opportunities for residents and businesses, supporting economic growth and enabling us to reach our ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2038. We are investing in sustainable and active travel options that empower communities to rethink their transport decisions, delivering significant investment in our infrastructure, revolutionising how people access public transport across our city region.

We are achieving our promise of improving public transport across our cities and boroughs, and it is the role of our Bus Director to lead the delivery of our current transport plan, overseeing the successful implementation of bus franchising, a cornerstone of our strategy to create a more reliable, affordable and sustainable network. Our first year has been a great success, with a significant increase in passenger numbers and improved operational performance. Now we want to go further.  You will be at the forefront of securing the success of bus franchising in Greater Manchester, working collaboration with transport operators to deliver a service that is an exemplar to city regions across the country. We are investing heavily in our fleet, moving to complete electrification by 2030, upgrading our depots and ensuring that access to the bus network is safe for all passengers.

We are looking for someone with the passion, energy and drive to deliver a network that residents can be proud of. As a key member of the leadership team, reporting to the Chief Network Officer, you will work closely with operational colleagues and partners to ensure the effective running of bus services across Greater Manchester. You will shape the vision for bus services within our Bee Network, increasing connectivity across other transport modes and services, including walking and cycling, rail, tram and highways teams. Strong performance management skills are essential, as is the ability to work across a wide range of partners, instilling a continuous improvement culture and ensuring that services are financially sustainable. Bus experience is not essential, however, we are seeking someone who understands passenger transport and most importantly has an absolute focus on delivering a modern bus service that is  passenger-centred and which helps unlock the power of our great city region.
